Once children start school, teachers have more influence on their intellectual and social development than parents do. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Nowadays, there is much debate regarding the influence educators exert on a child’s development. While I agree that teachers play a significant role, I also firmly believe that parents and grandparents have a greater bearing on a child’s spiritual, academic and societal growth. I will make known arguments in support of my observations. (53 words)
Our first teachers are our mother and father, with our grandparents in a close and supporting role. From birth to the age of about six, these people, guide and guard us, nurturing our mind, body and soul, which prepares us for life ahead. Then, in many jurisdictions, the child attends school, spending a substantial amount of time among strangers. Some of these unfamiliar people are teachers, who shape and meld their minds, filling them with knowledge and understanding. However, the views of the teacher and state, may instill ideas that are against the values of the family. (97 words)
In this modern fast-paced world, parents often do not have the time or knowledge to effectively instruct their child in advanced subjects such as mathematics, physics and foreign languages. This absence is very obvious at college level. So, because of this, trust is placed in the education system to impart this information. However, some consider with the lack of religious education, societal standards are not taught, bringing about a lack of respect for authority and a breakdown of social cohesion. Consequently, juvenile delinquency is on the rise. (87 words)
To conclude, the family plays a pivotal part in a child’s well-being and quest for knowledge. What’s more, teachers do have an important role to play to support and supplement this, especially with tertiary education. Perhaps, in the future, technology will offer parents a wider range of options for a more satisfactory curriculum structure. (54 words)
