　　【作文题目】In some countries, the difference in age between parents and children is generally greater than it was in the past. Do you think the advantages of this outweigh the disadvantages?

　　【参考范文】It has became apparent that in some countries, the age gap between parents and children is widening. This phenomenon, in my opinion, could bring more advantages and disadvantages to the families themselves, and the society as a whole.

　　To begin with, there are, undeniably, plenty of disadvantages such a gap has brought. The most prominent one is that it undermines the mutual understanding between parents and children. To give an example, parents in their 40s formed their world views and values much earlier than those in their 30s, resulting them to be generally more traditional. Therefore, they’re less tolerant to the new ideas, like being a never-married, that their children bring up. Such lack of tolerance and understanding, when being witnessed in a bigger scale, can further divide the age groups, obstructing the cooperation between them. Typically, when the age gap between employers and employees is widened, it will be harder for them to reach a consensus of management methods, resulting a decline of efficiency in the company as much of time is used to reach it.

　　Nevertheless, when it comes to the children’s development, there are two advantages that overshadow the disadvantages mentioned. When it comes to the family level, a greater age gap means parents are usually better prepared and will make less mistakes in nourishing their children. Bringing back the 30s and 40s comparison, the latter, with an additional 10 years of mental preparation and observation, could have a more sophisticated plan for the children’s development and are able to avoid more possible mistakes parents usually make through observing others around them. Apart from that, the parents that have more experience in working could be better mentors for their children as they can teach them to avoid the mistakes the fresh fish are prone to make.

　　Overall, despite the communication issues parents and children with a greater age gap could have between them, those parents are better mentors in avoiding mistakes. Thus, the gap, in my opinion, brings more advantages than disadvantages.
