　　Along with technology advancing ever more rapidly, our contemporary world has technology that is able to provide substitutes for whatever we can get from the body of animals. Hence, some animal-protectors appeal to the public not to hurt or kill any animal in order to serve human needs. From my perspective, their appeal is absolutely harebrained and extreme.

　　First, humans are carnivores. Eating the meat of animals is an indelible part of our nature and an important portion of our tradition. Maybe everyone being a vegetarian or vegan can save a great number of lives of animals, but meanwhile it also means a catastrophe for our food culture. Humans do not need to bear that huge cultural loss.

　　Similarly, in the past, hunters tended to use some parts of animal bodies to make some decorations to show their achievement in hunting. It is still a tradition in some regions or nations where people used to live on hunting. Persuading them to give up their ancestors’ customs is apparently irrational and unacceptable.

　　Actually, protecting animals does not imply that humans can never eat animals or use any animal products. Every life on this planet should be fully respected, but it seems that every life has its own destiny. The terminal point of life of a pig fed in a pigsty is our plates, whereas the end of life of a wild boar should be in the forest.

　　To sum up, we all love animals, but we do not love them more than our traditions. We all respect animals, but we still eat them or use them to make something we need since serving human needs is the destiny of some of them.
