Right, I believe everyone has a time when they(当人称代词男女不清时,使用they+单数) receives help from other people. And I, too, received a lot of help in my life. There was a time that I could never forget. I was so grateful to this person because he saved me when I was seriously ill.

It was in my year three in university and I got acute gastroenteritis (急性肠胃炎) - I kept vomiting and I had serious diarrhea. None of my housemate was home and all of my friends had gone on vacation. Seriously, things couldn’t be worse.

And I was so ill that I couldn’t walk alone. I tried my best to get out of my bed and walked downstairs. But I couldn’t walk any longer to the hospital and the ambulance refused to pick me  up since they categorized this disease as non-emergency. So I was so desperate that I turned to my neighbor. I didn’t know him at all but I just knocked at his door and hoped that he could help.

Luckily he was home and he said nothing but yes. He called a cab quickly and sent me to the nearest A&E, waiting there with me for two hours and sent me home after seeing the doctor. He was so sweet that he even bought some juice and porridge for me and he went to the city centre to fetch my medicine since the local pharmacy was closed on Sunday.

After two days I got much better so I went to his house and said thanks. I bought him a thank you card to show my gratitude but that’s far less enough.

To be honest, every time when I think it over, I still feel so warm and surprised on how strangers could be so friendly and helpful. I believe it’s the sympathy in his heart that made him do so. It may mean nothing to him, but it means a lot to me. So yeah, I’m still grateful to him now and I hope to pass on this love to other people who need my help.
