　　The person I want to talk about today is Sarah – she is my aunt, and also one of my greatest friends. She is one of the very few people in my life that shows her feelings openly. Well, at least, to me.

　　How do I know her? Most of my extended family live in the same city and I grow up seeing my mom’s siblings’ families around. At that time, Sarah was no more than my cousin’s mom and my mom’s sister. We would meet on my grandparents’ birthday, on mid-autumn festivals and on Chinese new year. I would say hi to her, saw her talked with my parents and grandparents, and then I would leave the room and go play with my cousins. Was she a friend? Not even close.

　　When I truly got to know her, was decades later, after I left my hometown for 12 years. Upon returning back to my home city, I needed to re-start my life and adjust to the new situations – I struggled from dealing with work stress, relationships with friends and families as well as people that view me differently. Sometimes I thought no one could help me here because no one truly knows me. On an interesting occasion, I happened to bring up some of my concerns in front of Sarah. She listened patiently for hours, and then pointed out the problem directly, and offered an insightful suggestion to solve the problem. I followed her advice and found out things turned out to be exactly what she described – I just couldn’t figure it out before. From that time on, I opened myself up more and more to her, and she did just the same to me! We became great friends – we talked about from what novels we like to read, to how to make important decisions in life! Whenever I had difficult problems in life, I would turn to her, and she always tried to help and offer insights with intelligence and honesty. I couldn’t find a more open person that her these days!

　　How I feel about my aunt Sarah? I think she tells me exactly how she feels and what she thinks, not because she’s any more outspoken than other people, but mostly because she cares about me and has my best interest at heart. I am lucky to have her in my life.
