　　When I think about children’s indoor games these days, what first come to mind are all kinds of video games, whether they are played on Iphones, Xbox or on the newest playstation. Some of the games are fascinating and I cannot blame the kids! But when I was in kindergarten, where electronic gadgets didn’t exist, we needed to come up with games on our own to play with friends and neighbors. One of them is the good old “role play” game.

　　I recalled my friends and I were obsessed with a children’s TV program called Sesame Street – we would sing along the show and play games pretending we are those TV characters. Semame Street is a made-up world where a bunch of puppets live in. It has its own neighborhoods, hospitals, playgrounds, grocery stores and restaurants. My friends and I would get in a room together, pretending we are those puppets and living our lives in their world. There was one time, I played the famous “cookie monster”, came in to a restaurant my friend ran, sat down and looked at a fake menu, asked questions to the waiter my friend played. The waiter answered my questions and took my order to the kitchen, only to bring me the wrong food after making me wait for 20 minutes! We joked about the waiter could have been fired if she’s in the real world lol

　　I think the reason we enjoyed our silly little role play so much was because that was an experience we could all share together. We watched the same TV shows, sang the same songs, talked about the same characters, and pretended to do whatever we want in their world! Similar interests draw people together, and what can be more fun than spending quality time with those share the same interest? Now my friends are all over the continents, every one of those “role play” memories becomes especially precious.
