　　Nowadays, many people perceive Arts as a useless subject. It serves no purpose but entertainment. In my opinion, this idea is not only short-sighted but also erroneous, because arts can tell us many things in life that science or technology is hopeless to do so.

　　It cannot be denied that it is easy for common students who study science subjects to get a better job with a higher pay. However, artists can still be rich beyond our imagination. Many top singers such as Michael Jackson, Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift are famous billionaires. Many singers or painters can still get a job with a decent pay in modern society. Therefore, it is invalid to believe that arts students will only get a low pay.

　　Furthermore, the world needs art, because it provides people with spiritual power, such as comfort and encouragement, while technology fails in this field. In a piece of music, people can feel different emotions, such as sorrow, sadness, joy, anger or fear, through which people can understand that some other people have already been through the same tough time. For example, in his masterpiece, the Fifth Symphony, Beethoven orchestrated how he fought against fate, illness and bad luck, which transcends time and space, giving people priceless comfort and support whenever they come across the same situation.

　　Moreover, arts can tell people about love and care, which technology ignores. Renowned editor Kevin Kelly in his book, What Does Technology Want? says that “We build the tools, and the tools build us in the end”. From his perspective, technology only wants number and efficiency in the end. As a comparison, arts care about people. In religious paintings, Michelangelo shows how God loves everyone equally. People can feel the warmth and love in his paintings. It will be a cruel world with only cold logic and numbers.

　　Arts can tell people about humanity. In Nazis Germany, the Nazis commanders exploited their logic to the fullest, and they ignored how Jewish people felt. They invented different weapons to kill people, just thinking how it could be in a more efficient way, which science and technology care. Science and technology gave people the means of killing, massacre, or mass murders, but they do not care why it is wrong to kill. On the other hand, the shocking scars and heartbreaks that arts can bring are irreplaceable.

　　Even in modern society, science can show people how to clone a sheep, but it does not care why it is not acceptable to clone a human. It demonstrates how to produce a knife, but it does not warn people why it is wrong to cut other people with it. Science and technology do not care about humanity, while arts can tell and care.

　　To conclude, it is understandable for people who love money or efficiency to place more value on science subjects, but the world cannot live without arts. Artists are still prestigious and respectable as long as humanity exists.
