Do you think it is easier for kids to remember poems?

Well, I think so. I have read some articles which talk about this phenomenon, it is said that children are much better at remembering than adults, especially when they do not know the meanings and have to memorize by rote. So it is understandable for some parents to let their kids remember a lot of poems.

Do you think children are interested in learning songs and poems?

Yes, history is the best teacher for kids to learn about the world. We have one saying in China, taking history as a mirror, one can know the rise and fall. There are both great measures and actions that are not that successful, so learning history helps children know what’s good and what’s bad.

Do you think it is important for children to learn lessons about the real world, like history?

Some of them are, for instance, I was interested in reading poems when I was in primary school since I do like the rhythm, and my classmates were really happy to take music lessons and learn new songs. But there are also children who are more interested in other areas like sports and science.

What can people learn from songs or poems?

Maybe different usage of words can be learnt. In poems or songs, sometimes there are really good sentences which uses common words in a totally different way, and that’s the most valuable part for us to learn and use in our work. Only when we learn from these masterpiece can we make progress when creating works.

Do you think it’s necessary for us to learn the intention of the author?

It’s not that necessary, in my opinion, everyone might have different opinions and understandings towards one work, just as the saying goes, there are a thousand Hamlets in a thousand people’s eyes, what’s important is to think by ourselves and have unique views.
