　　What

　　The comedy that I want to share with you is called A Chinese Odyssey（大话西游）.

　　I remember watching this movie many years ago. Stephen Chow（周星驰）, a comedy actor and a household name（家喻户晓的名字） in China, starred（主演） in this comedy.

　　plot

　　It wasn't so much of the slapstick humor（低俗的闹剧） that made this movie famous but the depth of the story line（故事线） that rarely exists in HK productions.

　　Using an important part of the classic story, "Journey to the West"（西游记）, the director attempted to retell the story of how the Monkey King  was tamed（驯服） and willingly escorted（护送） the Longevity Monk（长生不老和尚） on a journey to India to receive the sacred（神圣的） buddhist scriptures（佛经）.

　　cast

　　Stephen Chow stood out as the Monkey King. As a mortal（凡人） he attempted to resist his fate（反抗命运） and change his future, as an immortal（神仙） he tried to forget his mortal longings and focus on his mission（任务）. Stephen Chow's portrayal of the struggle and growth of the character was simply excellent.

　　Stephen Chow, the main character, and Wu Mengda, the supporting role are famous comedy actors in China and they can promise a lot of laughters as a perfect pair, making no exception for this movie.

　　the humour and other implications

　　This is a crazy movie, with martial arts（武术） monkeys, ladies who become giant spiders, and all sorts of devils and other supernatural characters wandering around causing trouble. It's fun, funny, and wacky. One interesting thing is that it's a movie full of strong women and weak men. You don't see that too often.

　　The story comes in 2 parts and has to be watched together to be fully understood (the 1st part had quite a cliffhanger悬念 going on). If all you are looking for is a few good laughs, the movie has plenty.
