雅思口语Part3话题素材:喜欢的歌手

  Part3

1.What kind of music do people like at different ages?

I don’t think there is a huge difference between older people and young people in music preferences. In my opinion, people listen to music to satisfy their different emotional needs. When we would like to relax, we tend to choose music or songs that are soothing and lyrical, whereas when we want to be inspired, we would search for those fast-paced ones like rock. Music lovers, especially those who play pianos or violins, they are likely to prefer classicical music no matter how old they are, since they are more familiar with this genre. If there has to be an answer, I would say compared with older people, young people are more sensive about and interested in new kinds of music like electronic music and digital music.

  2. What kind of music is popular in China now and what kind will be in the future?

It’s hard to tell. Some music can be popular among different age groups and their popularity can be long-lasting. For example, in China, there are some patriotic songs with beautiful melody and catchy lyrics that are favored by students, adults, as well as older people. Although these songs can be already decades-old, they are still sung by people at different ages and I believe that they will remain popular in the future. For other types of music, I think rap is trendy in China now. Speaking of the future, perhaps digital music will win a place.

  3. Do Chinese parents require their children to learn to play musical instruments?

Some of them will. For those music lovers who may also know how to play instruments, it’s likely that they would encourage their children to learn to play piano, flute, violin or guitar. These parents could teach their children and enjoy the quality time they spend together. Another group of parents who would require their kids to learn to play musical instruments would be those who didn’t have the opportunity to develop their music talents when they were young. These fathers and mothers may consider sending children to attend music classes as a make up for  the lack in their own childhood.

  4. Why do some people like to listen to live music while others prefer CDs?

I think it’s normal for people to have different preferences in terms of appreciating music. Those who like to go to concerts can be extrovert and good at socializing, they would like to join others and enjoy the bustling with noise and excitement. In a live concert, the audience may also have the opportunity to interact with their idols, satisfying their curiosity and desire as fans. In contrast, those who prefer CDs could be introvert and quiet. Instead of going out, they’d rather stay at home alone, listening to their favorite music in a peaceful environment. Generally, it’s the difference in character that leads to the dissimilarity in the way people listen to music.
