　　When it comes to this topic, the first place that jumps into my mind is the Jing’an Temple, which is located at West Nanjing Road, Jing’an District, the flourishing downtown area of Shanghai.

　　As far as I know, the history of the temple can be traced back to 780 years ago. I mean, it was built in the Southern Song Dynasty, and a famous calligrapher renamed it as Jing’an Temple in 1945 and is still named as such today. Actually, it’s one of the quietest places in Shanghai and I go there twice a month, on the first and 15th of every month.

　　The temple has been a sacred place in Shanghai since it was opened to the public in 1990. Every time when I go to burn incense and worship the Buddha, I can see monks chanting sutras, the faithful could be seen praying, which is a terrific way for me to get rid of stress and worries and find some inner peace.

　　Jing’an Temple is a great place to escape the hustle and bustle of crowds in downtown, cuz everyone who enters the temple speaks in a low voice, even children would whisper. I tend to go there with some devout Buddhists during some traditional festivals and special events, like the Temple Fair during the Spring Festival, we would go to lectures and then sit in meditation for hours, which can definitely help me loosen up and purify my soul.

　　I’m fascinated with this place not only because of the tranquil atmosphere, but also the venerability and auspiciousness the Buddha radiates. Even at this moment, I seemed to be able to smell the sandalwood incense in the temple.
