1.What kinds of machines are there in peoples homes?

There are various kinds of machines that are used in people’s homes. In the kitchen, we have equipment like dishwashers, microwaves, toasters and kitchen ventilators, which help us cook and clean. Speaking of cleaning, a vacuum cleaner is a must have in families. Recently, robot vacuums have gained popularity, though they may not be as useful as people imagined. Apart from that, for people who work at home, they will certainly have computers or laptops. In fact, computers are also used for entertaining. Other machines that are used for fun may include televisions and cameras.

2.What are the differences between the young and the old in their attitudes towards machines?

Generally speaking, young people are more likely to be keen on using machines and trying new technologies than old people. This is mainly because the younger generation grew up with machines like televisions, washing machines and comupters, having accepted and enjoyed the convenience that these gadgets bring. In contrast, older people tend to be less interested in machines and doubt their functions since they are not familiar with them. For instance, many old ladies in China still prefer to wash clothes by hand since they don’t believe that the washing machine can do it better. Because of such conceptions and habits, older people may not hold a posive attitude towards machines as young people do.

3.What kinds of professions require people to use machines?

Nowadays, nearly everyone needs to use machines at work. For office workers, computers are the basic tool that they use everyday. For workers in plants, they will be required to operate various machines that are used for producing different kinds of products. Actually, the more professional the job is, the more complicated the machine will be. A typical example is doctors, especially surgeons who need to master the use of machines like respiratory ventilators, anesthesia machines, and patient monitors, which are essential for rescueing people.

4.Will many peoples work be done by robots in the future?

Yes, I think so. It is possible that workers will be replaced by robots in the future. In fact, it is happening. In many plants and factories, robots have already been usedd to perform tasks like handling ojects, packaging, sorting, and welding. They are not only adopted in industries like manufacuring and logisticis, but also deployed in shopping malls and restaurants, working as receptionists, sales, and service people. Having said that, I don’t think all jobs will be done by robots. At least in 20 or 30 years, professional occupations like professors, doctors and lawyers can hardly be replaced by robots due to the complexity of their tasks.
