故事思维(Storytelling)可以打动人心-《哈佛商业评论》

在被奉为“编剧圣经”的《故事：材质、结构、风格和银幕剧作的原理》一书中，毕生致力于创意写作的著名美国剧作家罗伯特·麦基写到：“故事是人生必需品。因为故事不断寻求整治人生混乱的方法，洞察人生的真谛。

在罗伯特，麦基看来，故事是对生活的隐喻，是生活中的必需品。在其《故事经济学》中，他提出，从上古时代流传至今的东西方各国传说神话，到今日各类影视戏剧文学作品，触动内心深处最深的渴望、引起共鸣的核心都是“故事”-一人们天生渴望故事，无论随着时代更迭、平台怎样转换着各种形式，不变的却是都是“优质内容”，这也意味着如何学会讲述一个好故事在今日尤为重要。

故事思维与申请

海外本科申请，也正是一个申请者向学校讲述自己故事的过程。如何展现自己的优势？自身的经历与特色究竞与学校的要求在何种方面契合与匹配？

很多同学的申请中，常会勾勒：绩点高、奖项多、经历了挫折终于找到自我等等。可是在这样或充满光环或雷同的“人设”之下，却无法窥见这个申请背后的生动，没有能够打动人心的细节，也就是“故事力”。

为什么故事如此重要？因为招生官需要了解“真正的你”

用Storytelling的方式告诉招生官你是谁

"We're looking for real， thoughtful， genuine， teenager reflection.... Show us your personality， tell us who you are.

约翰霍普金斯大学本科生招生负责人艾伦，金(Ellen Kim)在一封电子邮件中写道， "We absolutely get a sense of applicants' personalities from their essays. The essay is just one part of theapplication but the most effective ones pull the whole application together.

申请中如何向学校讲述自己故事？如何展现自己的优势？自身的经历如何与心仪学校匹配？

想要回答好这些问题，我们需要知道如何利用自身特点讲述一个打动人心的故事，掌握“故事思维”。

如何用Storytelling创作自己的故事？

1."that moment when..."捕捉一个让你难忘的瞬间，以它作为你故事的起点

最令人难忘的故事往往始于一个微不足道的细节，正是不起眼的小事唤起了对自我的洞察。以一个唤起你成长的瞬间出发，讲述一个关于自我的故事。这个时刻帮助塑造了今天的你，影响了明天的你。

皮克斯导演Pete Docter说得非常准确：

"What you're trying to do， when you tell a story， is to write about an event in your life that made you feel some particular way. And what you're trying to do， when you tell a story， is to get the audience to have that same feeling.

2.以故事高潮/戏剧冲突为开篇

申请季时，各个招生官都要阅读大量的文书，所以让他们留下深刻的印象很重要。可以尝试以storytelling的方式，让招生官一开始就被激烈的戏剧性冲突所吸引。以下是三个故事的开篇示例：

"Stay away from the windows!" my first-grade teacher shouted as the school quivered from the first explosion.Darkness engulfed the sky. Moments later， the windows shattered into a million crystal-like shards. I was the target.

New York City， 9 p.m. Friends are laughing in the next room squeezed around the dinner table， as I try to whip something up. I put the water to boil， adding salt. As I wait， the steam begins to twist， to twirl， filling up the kitchen. I pause to wipe the sweat from my brow."

Vote Paul Lee for District Leader!" My face brightened as morning commuters passed by and took flyers from my hand.

3.赋予个人气质

故事的独特性是完整作品脱颖而出的关键。将你的个人体验和内心世界注入其中，使你的故事充满个性色彩，独一无二。“什么经历、创作、故事是最能代表你的？”“什么东西只有你才有？”

YOC青年观察作品中的故事力

列举两个YOC青年观察最高奖即Superior Award的作品，我们可以一起看看同学们如何通过Storytelling的方式，赋予文字生命力：

1、节选自： 2020-2021 YOC最佳青年观察奖获奖项目China'sPopulation Aging Crisis - The Impacts On Labor-IntensiveIndustries And The Labor Force，人口老龄化危机对劳动密集型产业和劳动力的影响

"Liu Yanhua turned on a sewing machine， her calloused hands precisely controlling the distance of each thread on the fabric.Soon， the sleeves of a plaid shirt were ready. Without hesitation， she immediately started on the next shirt. The noisy environment did not seem to affect her in any way.

Yanhua has been repeating the same task for 37 years and 3 months， from 7am to 10pm， day in and day out."

"Liu Yanhua启动了缝纷机，她那双长满老茧的手精确地掌控着布料上每根线的距离。很快，一件格子衬衫的袖子就做好了。她没犹豫，立即开始缝制下一件衬衫。嘈杂的环境似乎没有给她带来任何影响。

她已经重复这项工作37年零3个月了，每天从早上7点工作到晚上10点，日复一日。

2、节选自：2019-2020 YOC 最佳青年观察奖获奖项目： Living inthe information era： How snack-able contents influences theyouth？ 信息化时代，碎片内容是如何影响年轻人的？

"William woke up at 8 am on a Sunday. The first thing he saw was his phone right beside his pillow. He quickly opened WeChat to see if there's any new post from his friends. He used half an hour to view and reply to everything. 'Weekends are supposed to have fun and take 2 days off from school.' said William Zhang， a freshman from a bilingual school in Shanghai."

“威廉在周日早上8点醒来，第一时间拿起枕边的手机。他迅速打开微信，看看是否有朋友发来的新消息，花了半个小时查看并回复了所有内容。'周末就应该玩的开心。'来自上海一所双语学校的新生威廉，他说道。

不论是和工厂纺织工人刘阿姨的采访，还是对同学在周末被手机“支配”的情景再现，同学们用眼睛捕捉细节，用细腻的笔法记录了他们真实的生活工作状态，在小中见大的故事叙述中展示了当下最真实的社会现象。

就像皮肤的肌理和纹路，这些细节是支撑故事框架的血肉。没有它们，故事也可以拼凑着继续往下进行，但却丧失了打动人心的力量。
